Project Update

Pictured below is some of the reconstruction happening in the foyer over the marble staircase as part of the plaster restoration project. Roger Huntley and Gregg Homstad report that the northern corners of the foyer are near complete. Moulding repair is coming along well and the only areas left to replace are in the south corners. When all the plaster is fixed in the foyer, the crew will be able to move onto the painting stage of the foyer. Things are busy at the museum as we prepare for collections care training in February. On Feb. 13, Crystal Nelson will be conducting basic collections care training for new volunteers, area museum patrons, and anyone interested in learning. Feb. 23-27, conservator Terri Schindel will be conducting more advanced training and working with people in a hands-on setting. The training sessions are possible thanks to the IMLS grant the museum received. If you are interested in helping prepare the collection for moving, please contact the Dakota Territorial Museum. If you have questions about the project or events you can contact us at the Dakota Territorial Museum at 610 Summit Street (in Westside Park), on Facebook, or call us at 605-665-3898. The museum is open Noon-4pm seven days a week.
