Honoring the Old State Hospital

The exhibit design team at the Mead Cultural Education Center is honored to be working on an exhibit about the history of the historic State Hospital. If you or someone you know used to work at the Yankton State Hospital or Human Services Center or did their clinicals there, please let us know. We are looking for stories, memorabilia, and pictures (including a bed frame like one in above picture). The exhibit will be opening later this year in honor of the 140th anniversary of the facility. The museum is seeking sponsors for this exhibit. If interested in donating or sharing stories go to our website, www.meadbuilding.org, and fill out the form located in the Yankton State Hospital exhibit page. Mark your calendars for Sunday, July 21, as we host our first-ever Tea At Mead. This fun afternoon tea will feature a Victorian Style Show. Tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members. For more information contact Heidi at programs@meadbuilding.org. It’s not too late to contribute to the Mead Matter – Parking Lot Campaign. Contact Camille at info@meadbuilding.org or 605-665-3898 if you would like to talk about a contribution. Check out our calendar of events at www.meadbuilding.org, or you can stop out at the Mead Cultural Education Center at 82 Mickelson Drive. Our summer hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm (closed Wednesdays) and Sunday 1pm-5pm. Office hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
