First Exhibit Moved to the Mead

August 12, 2015

Even though it will remain crated for quite a while, the first exhibit has been moved to the Mead Cultural Education Center! The exhibit being physically in the building will help us as we go forward with exhibit planning and design. With the help of the South Dakota National Guard in Yankton we were able to move the massive crates to their new and permanent home. The exhibit explores the Missouri River and the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804. It was used as a traveling exhibit during the bicentennial celebrations of the Expedition. You can find more information about the move in this article from the Press and Dakotan: Mead Building Exhibit

We also have a few photos from the day below! Please contact us if you are interested in supporting our restoration efforts. This project would not be possible without the generous contributions from the community.

Loading crates from the storage unit.

One of the last group of crates arrives at the Mead Culturaul Education Center.  Multiple trips were needed to move the massive exhibit!

Many of the crates were too large to fit through even the oversized doors at the Mead. The Guard devised a way to lay the crates down without damaging the contents so they could be moved into he building.

Even with help from a rolling platform, the weight of the crates took quite a bit of manpower to move!
